Tom Hawthorn Music

Very nice guy. Great room to learn to play drums. This guy explains things in a way that makes it easy to understand at beginner to advanced and has a vast knowledge of music and drumming. I highly recommend Tom

From my initial enquiry with Tom and concerns around starting lessons later in life, to my first lesson i was made to feel comfortable and at ease. Tom is so friendly, easy going, patient, knowledgeable, and explains techniques clearly. The lessons are well-structured, fun, and tailored to my ability, which has helped me make steady progress. I feel much more confident behind the kit and always look forward to the next lesson. I would highly recommend Tom to anyone wanting to learn drums at any age.

Tom is a fearsomely talented drummer and clearly loves teaching, which he does with patience and purpose. He takes time to explain what he's asking you to do, why you're doing it and how it connects to what comes later. He's big on the idea that playing should be fun, and he brings that energy to his lessons – but his exacting attitude also makes you want to work hard and improve.

I've been learning from scratch with Tom for around 6 months. Even though he has a lot of pupils I always feel that I'm getting advice that's tailored to me specifically and he has a real talent for identifying the best things to work on to move me forwards with my playing. The sessions cover a good mix of basic technique, musicality and improvisation but he can always change direction if something comes up during the lesson. Highly recommended!

I came to Tom with a limited background in drumming, after many years away from formal Tuition. Tom expertly assessed my current level and immediately helped me to begin undoing some bad habits and poor technique. His passion for teaching is evident and with many years of experience as a professional drummer (backed by a Masters level qualification) there is no question he cannot answer or problem he cannot solve. Tom works out of a well equipped home studio and has multiple tools available to help with recording and subsequent analysis of performance. Above all, Tom is a very personable character who is easy to get along and work with. His approach to teaching is well balanced and tailored to the individual. I always look forward to my lessons with Tom and always feel that I have come away with a deeper knowledge and a structured plan to achieve my goals. Many thanks Tom!

Our 10 year old son really loves his drum lessons with Tom. His continued enjoyment in playing shows how encouraging Tom is. And the improvements we’ve seen in our sons playing shows how well Tom teaches too, helping him to grow. His communication with us is great, and he sends recordings of our sons playing so the whole family can hear him. He models such fantastic and gifted playing that our son is inspired to learn more. Tom is a brilliant tutor. I'm a few lessons in with drumming wanting to learn after my recent retirement. I am a left hander on the kit Tom's Year's of teaching experience doesn't fade him when changing bit's around on the kit to suit my needs going forward. He's home Studio set up is brilliant nice kit, playback, record, headphones and a good cuppa tea is always offered. 👌 10/10

My son thoroughly enjoys his lessons with Tom. The lessons are fun and relaxed, but Tom's also great at encouraging talent and making sure students achieve their potential. Would recommend!
