Words won't do it justice, one of the best nights of my life, OTR 🫶🏼
My Plot 22 'No Phones' Debut Sheffield & How Bonkers Is This!? Way back on Sep 27th 2023, I first made contact with Mike Thompson at this fiercely independent venue. On the 16th March 2023 a 'no phones' policy was declared, back then only a tiny handful of UK venues were 'no phones.' In December 2022 I had been filmed without consent in a well known London Club, a seven second clip of me dancing was shared via 'X' it went viral was very nasty (just google vice magazine filming in clubs) & initially shattered my self confidence. However the support was overwhelming. This included a treasured Silver Card' from Fabric, various 'no phone' venues offering any time invites & various festivals. I congratulated Mike on declaring the policy and: Hi Michael, Thanks for your kind words and message. Let us know if you fancy coming to any of our events and we'll happily send you some tickets for you and a plus 1. It is a weirdly radical step to take these days but it's important to try and maintain a vibe All the best Mike For TWO & A HALF friggin years I had been trying to visit. Finally on 25th April 2026 this became a reality! Wanting to support the venue I bought my ticket, then for just £7 (return!) for a National Express return from London (LOL my 'Senior Coach Card' is damn handy), I arrived just after 6pm with about four hours to kill, wandering around I thought 'fab if I can get a haircut' I glanced over to a cafe, then clocked a stranger approaching me, the opening words were 'Are you Michael?' I looked in disbelief 'er yes how do you know my name?' Big Smile 'I am Mike Thompson who runs Plot 22.' So yes BONKERS! We then chilled out at the fab @truelovessheffield waterside bar and time whizzed past. Arriving early with Mike at Plot22 with plenty of time to explore I was blown away that this 120 cap venue could have so much 'personality.' This place is literally covered from head to toe in ART! The night headlined by @naiyahmusic_ debut 18th Birthday with live vocals, this was my first experience of 'Sheffield Bassline' with a bangin lineup and sure did take me out of my comfort zone in a positive way. BTW Top Drawer Sound. The entire ethos of what Mike is offering to local talent and the varied events, is off the scale. So if just ONE person reading this post is motivated to visit I will be very happy!
Plot22 is honestly one of the best spots in Sheffield and an unreal soundsystem in a fantastic little room. The crowd and community are just great—really friendly and easy to feel at home.
Great venue, staff are friendly and helpful, the sound system is great for such a small venue and the vibe is always amazing!
Plot 22 is one of those places that sneaks up on you. You wander in expecting a standard little warehouse venue, and instead you get hit with this warm, lived-in energy that feels proper Sheffield — unpolished, friendly, and full of people who actually care about music rather than posing for it. The room isn’t fancy, but that’s exactly the point. It feels like someone carved out a corner of the city for artists and night-owls to breathe. There’s space to talk, space to dance, and space to just exist without anyone sizing you up. You can walk in alone and still feel like you’re part of something. The sound is cracking. Not the usual “turn it up and hope for the best” you get in some small spots. Everything’s clear, full, and somehow still comfortable on the ears even when the bass is rolling. It suits whatever’s on — hip-hop, house, punk, spoken word — and it never loses that sense of closeness. What makes it special, though, is the crowd. Everyone feels approachable. You get students next to older ravers, locals next to newcomers, all mixing without the usual cliques. It’s a rare thing: a nightlife room that feels genuinely safe, not because someone put a slogan on a poster, but because the people inside actually look out for each other. Plot 22 has that DIY heart you lot are known for — the feeling that culture is something you build together, not something handed down from a brand. Nights there stick with you. You remember the conversations, the sweat on the walls, the way the whole room lifts when a tune lands just right. If you want a night out that feels real, warm, and full of soul, Plot 22 is up there with the best of Sheffield.
Great community venue with a lovely crowd and always a solid lineup
